Before we begin, some interesting news on this whole promotion. The McDelivery online ordering system continues to be plagued with intermittent service.
It is a testament to how insane Hello Kitty fans can be and how McDonald's struggles with its IT system. Advance orders are not possible naturally. As a result, people are routed to calling its phone delivery system which is also struggling. From my own personal experience and from another friend as well, it takes roughly 10 minutes during off peak hours to reach a live Customer Service Officer (CSO) to place an order. Delivery of the meals can take up to a few hours.
It is no wonder that on its Facebook page they are drawing some extremely heated flak from some very unsatisfied customers on this very highly successful promotion event. The Wizard of Oz (AKA Lion Kitty) promotion started on Thursday 30th May and by Tuesday was sold out. Truly amazing.
They have hastily sent out a motherhood statement on this but it has been a case of very badly handled PR and the recovery sadly has been anaemic with them taking a "duck and cover" approach towards addressing the complaints online about (in other words just totally staying silent about it other than this statement released below), yet at the same time they have responded to some queries and other feedback (like missing orders, wrong orders). I really would not want to be one of their CSOs right now, facing the wrath of crazed Sanrio fans. Yahoo! News has a nice write up on this here.
Not surprisingly, opportunistic people here have started putting them out on eBay going from 15 to 40++. Some others are also offering full sets with the Wisdom Owl which is only available in Hong Kong. Prices are mindboggling.
Some people anticipate this so much that they ordered this at the stroke of midnight. Personally I feel there is nothing to worry about as the first one took around 5 days to run out of stock. With that said, let us move on to the review!
The front cover artwork shows Hello Kitty in some Dutch Lady milkmaid looking kind of outfit
The back cover shows the Big Bad Wolf in Hello Kitty form too...Maybe a villains series a part deuce of Fairy Tales perhaps?
Here is an isometric view of the box.
Yup, same format as the first 2 and as far as I can tell this is red in colour like the McDelivery Hello Kitty. The logo around the rim of that oval is different for each character.
From the front she looks rather plain this time, the hood and the ribbon blends into each other. The hood does not taper into a sharp end like what is shown in the artwork avoiding that tear drop look. Her little cape is quite short so it has a tendency to stand up, which I have purposely accentuated, which reminds me of Count Dracula...
She looks like she is wearing a kendo suit from the back somehow...
With that, that is this for this simple review, here is the cover art to close off.
